While You Were Sleeping: Images

This image is taken from the very end of the film. It captures the romcom love of dramatics and extremely romantic endings. In true romantic comedy form, the over-the-top ending that has Jack slipping an engagement ring into Lucy's booth as it ends in wedded bliss for the two (despite Lucy's newly revealed lies.) Endings such as this can make people believe that all romance should be over-the-top and give them false expectations.

This image captures the cliche of the "obstacle." While Lucy is 'engaged' to Peter, she loves Jack. Jack is depicted with all of his attention on Lucy, showing his love for her despite her engagement to his brother. Finally, Lucy is displayed as struggling with her inner conflict to tell the truth and "climb the obstacle."

This is a scene that depicts the initial like vs. dislike element of most romantic comedies. Though there is an air of distrust surrounding the two, their body language tells otherwise.

This is the movie poster for "While You Were Sleeping." The poster itself promises a movie filled with so much love and romance. The two main characters look so blissfully happy with one another, which is a hope many of the movie-goers wish to find for themselves.

  1. I think you were dead on accurate with your assessment. I love romantic comedies and you presented everything well.

I remember the Cute Pet comment and I thought of Along Came Polly where Jennifer Aniston had the ferret and she left it, which was the reason why she came back and he was there waiting for her. Ben Stiller is in a lot of good romantic comedies.

As long as the movie is funny, it does not matter that I already know how it is going to end up. The formula is always the same, but the content is always different which makes each one unique in its own way.
